The 2nd Officer (OOW) plays a vital role in our onboard navigation teams. As part of the Watch team, you will prioritize the safety of the voyage so our guests can have a great vacation experience in their home away from home!

Set sail on a new career with Carnival and help us bring the FUN to life aboard one of our fantastic vessels! We’re looking for dedicated individuals to join our Deck team. The 2nd Officer role will be a vital piece of our navigation team on board.  


As part of the watch team, you will prioritize the safety of the voyage so our guests can have a great vacation experience in their home away from home! You’ll be working all around our vessel and on the ship's bridge to maintain the highest levels of safety. As with all of our team members, you’ll be a highly visible member of the team and will constantly interact with our guests and help them with questions. The vacation experience we promise our guests will start with you!  


Job functions:

Bridge Watch Keeper as required by the BRMM Procedures

  • Responsible to the Bridge manager for the execution and monitoring of the voyage plan according to the V.P. Procedures.
  • Ensure all Nautical Charts and all Publications are corrected and updated as required under the supervision of the 1st officer/Bridge manager
  • Maintenance and Tests for the Bridge instruments, Including GMDSS, Iridium, and other communications equipment. He/she is responsible for the familiarization and the Ship's Maneuver characteristics for the deck officer assigned to his watch. Update the Bridge defficiencies report under the supervision of the Bridge Manager.
  • Ensures that the Company’s Safety & Environmental policies and procedures are duly applied and followed.
  • In charge of the daily Ship’s Stability Calculation, including freshwater & ballast management control plan. (see Stability Procedures).
  • Ensuring that the Deck Officer assigned to his watch is familiar with the use of the ship's stability calculation computer program (onboard NAPA).
  • Responsible for tanks inspection, Maintenance & Record keeping (FW-BW-GW) as directed by the staff captain and by the 1st Officer/Bridge Manager
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the ship’s certificates as directed by the Staff Captain.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the Deck and Engine officer’s Certifications, as directed by the Staff Captain.
  • Assist the Safety Officer and the Training Officer in the conduct of crew Safety Drills, when needed.
  • Assist the Safety Officer and the Training Officer with the Vessel Familiarization (PCS).
  • Check and monitoring of the SMS for the Deck Department.
  • As part of your safety responsibility, your Position/Rank has been identified as a“Trainer/Assessor” within the Training, Drill, and Assessment program.
  • The above procedures apply to all the O.O.W. and shall be distributed accordingly by the MASTER.


Minimum Requirements

  • To apply for this role, you must hold an IMO Certificate, Regulation  IMO II/2 (CH.MATE)
  • Valid STCW certificates, as required for the position
  • mandatory High School or Maritime Academy
  • Applicants must be +21 years old


Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within a cruise ship environment is a plus
  • 2nd Deck Officer experience or higher is a plus

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience Level

You should have at least 2-4 years of experience in a similar role.

English Proficiency

Advanced level proficiency in English is required.

Guest Facing Experience

Minimum guest interaction might be required.

Physically Fit

You must pass a Seafarers Medical Fitness Examination.
