This is a shipboard position, requiring extensive travel between our vessels on a rolling contract basis. The position is not based in the USA.

 

Set sail on a new career with Carnival Cruise Line and help us bring the FUN to life aboard one of our fantastic vessels! We are looking for dedicated individuals to join us as Propulsion Specialist.

 

Our Technical teams ensure the safe and smooth operation of the propulsion systems, engines, waste disposal systems, electrical and fire systems, air conditioning and mechanical equipment on board the ship. The Propulsion Specialist plays a critical part in ensuring our technical operations exceed the highest levels of environmental and safety standards.

The Propulsion Specialist consistently monitors, controls, and troubleshoots all electrical propulsion equipment. In addition, they are responsible for the safe operation of all electrical propulsion machinery in accordance with the policy, procedures, and safe working practices, promoting a strong safety culture and always adhering to all environmental policies and procedures.

Your Responsibilities and Tasks: What will you be doing? 


  • Supporting the Electrical Managers in their day to day activities for any electrical issue that may require a higher level of expertise in the specific field
  • Responsible for maintenance and carrying out repairs (but not limited to) at:

Propulsion System

Propulsion Converters

MV and LV drives

All electrical equipment

  • The Propulsion Specialist is responsible for:

Troubleshooting of all issues under her/his responsibility

Spare Parts Management

System Software Handling

Documentation

RCM maintenance program

Technical investigation for repetitive failures and resolution

Critical Inventory

Training (fleet wide) on AC110, PSR

 

  •  Verifies and approves ship’s requisitions for spares, service, and consumable within his area of responsibilities, issuing shore side requests of materials and service, if needed. Partners with the Purchasing Staff for evaluation of suppliers, new products proposals, and development of new resources.
  • Participate in all planning and preparation stages for all assigned projects and dry-dock specifications, following ship’s repair and maintenance during refit works, as applicable.
  • Co-operates with the Compliance, Environmental & Occupational Safety Group during the review of new upcoming safety regulations that might require modifications throughout the fleet.
  • Co-operates with the Ship’s Manager/Electrical Manager for the preparation of plans for modification/updates, to be implemented on existing vessels due to obsolescence of equipment.
  • He/she participate to evaluation and assignment of electrical onboard personnel in cooperation with the relevant Ship’s Manager/Electrical Manager and the Manning and Training Dept.
  • This position requires involvement in structuring, implementing, and monitoring the Company SMS within the area of assigned responsibilities.
  • Participate to the Company Incident Response Plan.


Minimum Requirements: What do you bring to the table? 


  • Technical education (Electronic or Electrical Engineer), with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • ABB Training – ABB factory trained on Cycloconverters/Azipods preferred
  • 5 + years extensive experience with Cycloconverters/Azipods, ideally onboard a cruise ship
  • Managerial experience preferred
  • Experience with coordinating complex activities and projects
  • Ability to work well with a diverse and ever-changing team
  • Personnel management skills
