Set sail on a new career with Carnival and help us bring the FUN to life aboard one of our fantastic vessels! We’re looking for dedicated individuals to join our Deck team. The 1st Deck JR Officer role will be vital to our navigation teams and safe watch on board. As part of the watch team, you will prioritize the safety of the voyage so our guests can have a great vacation experience in their home away from home! You’ll be working all around our vessel and on the ship's bridge to maintain the highest levels of safety. As with all of our team members, you’ll be a highly visible team member and will constantly interact with our guests and help them with questions. The vacation experience we promise our guests will start with you!


  • Responsible for the safety of navigation as a Bridge Watch Leader as required by the BRMM Procedures and schedule of the vessel
  • The 1st Deck JR Officer is the Bridge Manager
  • Appointed as Voyage Planning Officer responsible for applying the Voyage Planning procedures, including documents and
  • Ensure that the Bridge Standards and Watchkeeping procedures are followed, reporting any deficiency to the Staff Captain and the Master
  • Organize monthly nautical and Voyages Overwise meetings
  • Responsible during the Watch for the execution and monitoring of the voyage plan according to the V.P. Procedure
  • Responsible of the Charts ( ENC/Paper ) and Publications corrections and upkeeping
  • Provide regular reports to the Captain/ Staff Captain.
  • Ensure that the Company’s Safety & Environmental policies and procedures are always duly applied and followed.
  • Facilitate a work environment that supports a thriving Safety Culture, and implements and maintains an effective Environmental/HESS management system. Enforcing and promoting the Company’s procedures in the team/Department under their responsibility.
  • The First Officer supports (but is not limited to) the Staff Captain and Captain to manage the external communications as required.
  • Supervise the stability condition during his/her watch and notify the Stability officer and the master in case of any issue
  • Ensuring and assisting the Staff Captain that the Deck Officer assigned to the watch is familiar with the use of the ship’s stability calculation computer program (onboard NAPA)
  • In charge of the education and professional growth of the Junior Officer/Cadet Officer, involving their duties both during and while off the watch activities.
  • Responsible for the tank inspection, Maintenance & Record keeping (FW-BW-GW) as directed by the Staff Captain
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the ship’s certificates as directed by the Staff Captain
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the Deck and Engine Officer’s Certifications, as directed by the Staff Captain
  • Familiarization of the Bridge Equipment for the deck officer
  • Trainer /Assessor within the Training, Drill and Assessment Program
  • Responsible to the master and Staff Captain for BRM Procedure and related checklist
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Bridge equipment
  • Responsible for the ECDIS Familiarization for the Deck officers
  • Responsible for the Deck officer's familiarization with Bridge Equipment
  • Responsible to inform joiners Officers about latest nautical Learning Event
  • Responsible for the assigned PMS works
  • Responsible for updating the Bridge Instrumental report and issuing service requisition
  • Responsible for magnetic Compass deviation daily check
  • Any additional assignment at the discretion of the Captain and Staff Captain


Minimum Requirements:

  • IMO Certificate – Chief Mate (STCW II/2on ships of 3000 Gross Tonnage or more
  • Flag state IMO endorsement of recognition
  • ECDIS -Courses and Certification
  • Survival Craft Operation Certificate
  • 2 Year's experience as a Chief Mate
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to act quickly and remain calm when under pressure
  • Proven experience working in a diverse and fast-paced environment
  • Valid GMDSS Certificate and Flag endorsement
  • Additional Training certificates as per STCW 95 and Company Regulations



Preferred Requirements:

  • Master Unlimited License
  • 2+ years experience as Chief/ 1st Deck Officer on medium to large cruise vessels
  • Quick progression through Nautical Ranks, with experience working on various vessel sizes


JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience Level

At least 5 years of experience in similar roles is required.

English Proficiency

Advanced level proficiency in English is required.

Guest Facing Experience

Minimum guest interaction might be required.

Physically Fit

You must pass a Seafarers Medical Fitness Examination.
