Set sail on a new career with Carnival, and help us bring the FUN to life aboard one of our fantastic vessels! We’re looking for dedicated individuals to join us on board as 3rd Engine Officer!  

The Engine is the heart of our ship, and our technical teams ensure the safe and smooth operation of the propulsion systems, engines, waste disposal systems, electrical and fire systems, air conditioning and mechanical equipment while ensuring Environmental compliance so our guests can enjoy the FUN facilities we have on board.  

 

As a 3rd Engine Officer at Carnival, you will assist the Engine Officer on Watch (EOW) by locally monitoring and troubleshooting engine room equipment.  You will also take part in the repair and maintenance of the Engine Room equipment as directed. You will learn and follow all policies and procedures, and as an Engine Officer,r you will lead by example in your conduct on board.

  • The 3rd Engineer functions as a key technical assistant within a defined operational area of the Engine Department with no subordinates.
  • Stands engine room watch under the supervision of a designated Watch Engineer or Facility Maintenance Manager.
  • Supports senior engineering officers in managing and maintaining assigned systems and machinery.
  • Ensures safe and compliant operation of:
  • Main and auxiliary engines.
  • Fuel feeding and purifier systems (HFO, MDO, LO)
  • Boiler and steam plants.
  • Bilge, ballast, and heeling systems.
  • Grey/black water and bulkhead valve systems.
  • Fresh water generation, potable water treatment, and distribution systems.
  • Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (AWWT) and Ballast Water Treatment Systems.
  • Laundry, galley, and recreational water facilities (Hotel/FMM support)
  • Air quality and HVAC-related support systems (AAQS, chemical water loops)
  • Performs chemical analysis and treatment of various onboard water systems (boiler, cooling, potable, recreational, A/C)
  • Conducts supervision and safety checks on systems in operation, including piping integrity and backflow preventers.
  • Reports equipment abnormalities and ensures maintenance compliance with OH&S, ECP, MARPOL, and SOLAS.
  • Participates in safety drills, technical training, and environmental compliance programs.
  • Maintains accurate logs, inventories, and documentation for systems and consumables.
  • Fulfills additional assignments as directed by the Chief Engineer.



Minimum Requirements

  • To apply for this role, you must hold an IMO Certificate, Regulation IMO III/1 or above
  • Valid STCW certificates, as required for the position
  • Mandatory High School Diploma
  • Applicants must be +21 years old


Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within a cruise ship environment is a plus
  • 3rd Engine Officer experience or higher is a plus

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience Level

You should have at least 2-4 years of experience in a similar role.

English Proficiency

Advanced level proficiency in English is required.

Guest Facing Experience

Minimum guest interaction might be required.

Physically Fit

You must pass a Seafarers Medical Fitness Examination.
