Set sail on a new career with Carnival, and help us bring the FUN to life aboard one of our fantastic vessels! We’re looking for dedicated individuals to join us onboard as Engine Cadet!  

 

The Engine is the heart of our ship, and our technical teams ensure the safe and smooth operation of the propulsion systems, engines, waste disposal systems, electrical and fire systems, air conditioning, and mechanical equipment, while ensuring Environmental compliance, so our guests can enjoy the fun facilities we have on board.  

 

As an Engine Cadet at Carnival, you will be learning the ropes in the department, finding out what it takes to keep the ship running. You will be working with the Engine Officers and the rest of the Engine Team to really understand how the department works. You will assist with paperwork and other clerical duties, and will learn the department's policies and procedures. As an Engine Cadet, you will be expected to be an example to others when it comes to following the rules and be an ambassador for the engine department. 

 

Joining Carnival as an Engine Cadet is the first step on your journey to becoming an Engine Officer onboard one of our ships.    

  • Assists Engine Officers with watchkeeping duties and daily engine room operations.
  • Conducts engine rounds, reports observations, and supports system monitoring.
  • Learns to operate power generation systems, main engine auxiliaries, and purification equipment.
  • Supports the inspection of bilge systems and piping integrity.
  • Gains hands-on experience with water treatment, steam systems, compressors, and sewage handling.
  • Learns the use and operation of onboard fire protection systems.
  • Assists with machinery startup/shutdown and monitors operating parameters under supervision.
  • Develops the ability to read technical manuals, diagrams, and ship drawings.
  • Supports engineering tasks during arrivals and departures, including administrative duties.
  • Maintains records and updates the Engine Cadet Record Book and other required documentation.
  • Participates in safety drills, training exercises, and applies all relevant HESS-MS standards.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned by the Chief Engineer and in line with training objectives.



Minimum Requirements

  • Valid STCW certificates, as required for the position
  • Mandatory High School Diploma
  • Applicants must be +18 years old


Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within a cruise ship environment is a plus
  • Similar experience or higher is a plus

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience Level

You should have at least 1-2 years of experience in a similar role.

English Proficiency

Advanced level proficiency in English is required.

Guest Facing Experience

Minimum guest interaction might be required.

Physically Fit

You must pass a Seafarers Medical Fitness Examination.
