Security Operations Director


Responsible for development and implementation of shipboard security officer training curriculum:


1) Review and develop quarterly drills, annual exercise as well as bomb search procedures.

2) Train and instruct shipboard security officers in managing and controlling hostile crowds, defensive tactics, handcuffing techniques, overall threat assessments and provide guidance on best tactical approach to active assailant threats.

3) Review security posture and tactics on preventing armed piracy and security measures employed during all MARSEC levels.

4) Review security scheduling and provide guidance on resource allocation.

5) Observe, assess staff deployment and adjust allocation according to security needs. Additionally, the Security Operations Director will spearhead the strategy around the night-shift operations for his/her vessel by providing guidance, direction, and instruction to the night shift supervisor and by supporting the team onsite. He/she will review the nighttime security operations to detect strengths and weaknesses and provide recommendations to improve vulnerabilities.


Major Action and Support Actions

  • Develops, formulates, and maintains a training curriculum, including an annual security exercise, quarterly drills, and monthly bomb search procedures.
  • Conducts shipboard security officer training to manage, control, and de-escalate hostile, unruly crowds. Instructs security officers on defensive tactics and techniques, handcuffing procedures, application of proper use of force, proper threat assessments, and tactical response  to active assailant scenarios.
  • Travels to different destinations and ports to join Carnival Cruise Line ships for training purposes.
  • Recommends training adjustments and modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Conducts remedial training after assessments of lessons learned. Briefs security team post-incident during hot wash.
  • Periodically reviews security policies and procedures related to the use of force, managing hostile and intoxicated guests, active assailant response, and other external and internal threats.
  • Meets with staff captains, chief security officers, security services training manager and company security officer to review all training criteria and make recommendations as needed.
  • Responsible for familiarization with flag circulars, United States Coast Guard 33 CFR, and ISPS code pertaining to security training, yearly exercise, drills, and threat management.
  • Conducts a general overview of security operations. Makes assessments and observations to detect strengths and weaknesses. Provides recommendations to rectify deficiencies. 
  • Collaborates with the night shift supervisor to build a strategy around nighttime security for each vessel. Provides guidance, mentoring, and support to the onboard security team related to scheduling, deployment of staff, and ensuring hot spots are targeted to reduce incidents. Maximizes resources by assigning security officers to historically challenging areas to manage and control crowds. Assists in supporting the team on-site, during high-risk days and evening hours.



Minimum Requirements: What do you bring to the table? 

 

  • Minimal 3 Years of proven experience, Former military or police training advisor or instructor
  • High School Diploma,
  • Suitable applicants must be +21 years old
  • Basic STCW Training,
  • English Language proficiency
  • Always follow Carnival’s Occupational and Health policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work well with a team.
  • Being a representative of the Carnival Brand

 

Preferred Requirements: What would we love to see? 

  • Experience in a similar role onboard a cruise vessel.

Experience Level

You should have at least 2-4 years of experience in a similar role.

English Proficiency

Advanced level proficiency in English is required.

Guest Facing Experience

Some level of interaction with guests will be required.

Physically Fit

You must pass a Seafarers Medical Fitness Examination.
